If you’d have asked me a few years ago if I’d ever run a 5K race it’d have probably said no. It wouldn’t have seemed possible to achieve something like that, running was something other people did.
Never say never though because after a lot of training and along with 697 other runners at the RunBalmoral, I ran my first 5K!
The whole day was a lot of fun. It looked like it was going to be a wet day when we set off, but thankfully the rain held and when we reached Balmoral the sun broke through and it was a really warm afternoon.
There was a great atmosphere with lots of families out to cheer relatives and friends on.
Balmoral is a lovely setting and a great place to run if you have the opportunity.
The race itself was tough and hotter than expected. I had too many layers on and over heated quite early on. I made the rookie mistake of setting off too fast and tiring out too soon as well. I found it hard to pace myself at the beginning until I had overtaken a few people running a slower race and found some others running the same pace as me.
Despite all that I made it through and crossed the finish line with a big smile.
One check in the bucket list of life, 5K done!
